Verizon's FiOS Leads in Customer Satisfaction

23 February, 2009

Verizon Communication’s FiOS is leading the nation in pay-TV customer satisfaction, according to a recent survey conducted by Strategy Analytics. Results indicate that FiOS subscribers are more satisfied with their television service than AT&T, Comcast Cable, Time Warner Cable, Cox Cable, DirecTV, and Dish Network customers.

Overall, cable TV subscribers had the lowest levels of satisfaction, with Time Warner Cable ranking last in customer satisfaction. Time Warner Cable customers are reportedly the most likely to switch service providers, if offered a tempting monthly price cut.

"Telco TV providers had the highest loyalty - their customers were least likely to churn," stated Ben Piper, Analyst for Strategy Analytics.

Conducted in the latter half of 2008, the survey polled 842 consumers of seven major pay-TV providers. Results indicate that 89% of FiOS subscribers were “somewhat” or “very” satisfied with their service. Only 1% of FiOS customers claimed to be “somewhat” or “very” dissatisfied.

Of polled Dish Network, DirecTV, and AT&T U-Verse subscribers, 80% claimed to be “somewhat” or “very” satisfied. Approximately 72% of Comcast Cable, 67% of Cox Cable, and 65% of Time Warner Cable subscribers were “somewhat” or “very” satisfied with their television service.

Strategy Analytics polled customers on three areas of ‘customer churn:’ notable obstacles to defecting, customer satisfaction levels, and inclination to churn.

Though overall satisfaction rates were high, Strategy Analytics reports that approximately 60% of surveyed consumers would be willing to switch providers for a 20% monthly price cut.

The above-mentioned web-based survey took place from August to September of 2008, and only respondents over the age of twenty were chosen to participate. Self-identifying “Decision Makers” comprised the 842 participants.
